Is This Brown Patch?

We had a pool installed last summer. This particular area was seeded last fall with Rebel Elite(TTTF)

You will see in the last picture where the brown patches are, there is a slight color variation btwn the old grass which was more perennial rye than the fescue. Thought fescue would give a thicker lawn. The lawn is still a little thin and needs some TLC. I do have some soil/lawn booster on order which contains molasses, humus and seaweed. We did not apply any soybean meal this year. Now I read that soybean meal can make brown patch worse anyway, so holding off until we possibly get this identified.

We have actually had cooler temps this spring, clouds and rain. I think this past week we got roughly 4 inches of rain here.

If it is brown patch, I will head to the store to get some corn meal. What is the application rate for corn meal and should we do the entire lawn? Does brown patch spread easily?

I cannot be sure it that is brown patch or not. It does look like a fungal disease. Do spread some corn meal or cracked corn at 20 lbs per 1000 sq. ft. to treat that area. Might as well do the whole lawn while you are at it. It is a mild fertilizer and a great fungi fighter. The lawn screams out to me "ORGANIC MATTER, ORGANIC MATTER". This fall, mulch mow as many fallen leaves as you can into your lawn. Three weeks after your cracked corn application, apply soy bean meal at 14 lbs. per sq. in. Repeat August 20 and October 1. Raise you mower deck to cut at 3 to 4 inches.

So I have the corn meal. The lawn and soil booster that I ordered also came yesterday. Do you think I should apply the soil booster first and then the corn meal afterwards? The soil conditioner contains Ammounium Laureth Sulfate and the other one has Humic Acid and Seaweed.

We will definitely follow your plan as outlined with the soybean meal. I have to say the first rain of spring we had so many worms come out on the driveway and ever since April, I have not seen any worms. Yes, our soil is definitely screaming at us..FEED ME....FEED ME!! Which is why I bought the soil boosters. Also have a new mulching blade ordered that hopefully will arrive next week. Unfortunately, we do not have alot of trees in our property and the leaves that do fall seem to blow into the neighbors yard.

You can apply those two products any time. It won't hurt anything and it might help a little particularly the humic acid and seaweed.

14 lbs per sq in would be about 20' high. That should crush any fungus :)

Ammonium laureth sulfate is otherwise known as the foaming agent in most shampoos. If you want to save a few bucks next time, use Equate brand baby shampoo from Wally's.
