I almost ruined a pair of sneakers spreading it.

That sounds like a great price. I live outside of New York (not many farms or distributors of corn meal gluten), and I had to pay $50 for a 50 pound bag. Ugh.

I'm not sure about putting it down just after the second mowing. If you're on your second mowing the weeds are probably up already. I'd put it on sooner than that either. All you did was fertilize the lawn by putting in on this time of year, you'll get no weed suppression, which is fine, it's a good fertilizer.
I've heard people on these boards talking about possible pesticide residue on the corn so I'd try not to get it all over you. Some people joke about how they freak the neighbors out by eating it right out of the spreader but not sure if I'd do that. Maybe that was soybean meal that people talked about pesticide residues and not CGM but either way, I try to keep the stuff off of me.
That is a decent price. I have a local feed meal that sells it for $11, but I've paid $21 already too.

Look for Soybean Meal instead. It might be a lot cheaper. Not to mention that it's a heck lot easier to spread with rotary spreader just like regular chemical fertilizer.
