overseeding and corn meal gluten

Hi all,

I know this question has been asked and answered before, but I can't find the exact answer I'm looking for, so if you don't mind indulging me...

I am planning to overseed my small lawn this fall. I also want to fertilize, and we already have a bag of organic fertilizer that contains a lot of corn gluten meal. Can I time the two applications (seed and CGM) so as not to inhibit germination (like: seed at the end of August, do CGM at the end of September)? Or is it best to just find a different fertilizer that won't mess up the seed, and save my CGM for the spring application?

The primary purpose of using Corn Gluten Meal is suppression of newly germinated seeds so any application of CGM would need to be many weeks after your new grass seed has germinated and started to grow quite well and that can be 6 to 8 weeks when most "weeds" are going dormant for the winter. Since there is no real benefit to applying CGM in the fall, other than the Nitrogen, probably waiting 'til spring for that is better.
