Ok I'm going to just jump right into this natural lawn care and go for it.

Yesterday I pulled a ton of crab grass and other grass like weeds out of my lawn. Didn't get them all (over half though) before I went in and mowed it. Today I'm planning on getting the rest of the weeds and then putting down some organic compost I bought at Lowe's. Not hte best compost I'm sure but better than nothing. I'm going to call around Monday and find a feed store that carries soybean meal. Shouldn't be too hard as this is a fairly agricultural area but the closest feed store didn't carry it so I'll have to get the phone book out. I'm also taking photo's of before and during the process to provide some evidence of how the whole thing goes.

My question is, if I throw down compost today, how long until I can fertilize with the SBM? Can or should I do it right away? Or should I give the compost a few days to settle in?
