Check with your county office of the Rutgers University USDA Cooperative Extension Service and they will advise you on how to sample your soil without destroying the turf. Really you will only take a slice of soil, from many places, and combine them all in one sample. There is no real need to dig holes in your turf, or at least permanent holes.
