Which Reel Mower for organic lawn

Hi,

We have a not so big lawn in our new house that we are trying to go organic. Which reel mower should I get? I used to use a old reel mower (Brill Luxus) that I really liked but I have read some posts that reel mowers may not be suitable for organic lawn as they cut too low. Is there a reel mower that would work. We are in California bay area (no rain in summer and some rain in winter).

Every reel mower I have seen has a height adjustment that can be set for a 3 to 4 inch cut. When looking just be sure that the one you do select can be set there.

I have a Scotts reel mower and gave up on it. I have St. A. lawn here in Florida and could not get it high enough. I'm using a self-propelled Toro now..great machine...and much higher cut.

The Scotts Classic manual should be able to do 3 inches.

Unless you want to cut short a rotary will deliver a better cut IMO.

Mowing height has nothing to do with the use of organic or synthetic fertilizers. Most grasses should be mowed at the mower's highest setting. Kentucky bluegrass should be mowed at 3 inches (lower than the highest setting). Bermuda, bentgrass, and centipede should be mowed at the lowest setting. Those are most suited to a reel type mower.
