Here are a couple of shots of my light gardening. I notice that finally a few of the lettuce seeds are sprouting (the ones from W-M)I was just getting ready to reseed those pots,

What kind of lettuce are you growing?

Will your day lilies bloom this year? I'm anxious to see what colors you'll get.

OK, now I know I posted a response here..................

Lettuce, I am growing black seeded simpson, oakleaf, and buttercrunch. Last year I did a red romaine that I loved. I believe it was Cimmaron.

Oakleif I have had to clip the day lilies once and need to do it again. They are growing like crazy.

Christie, one or two might bloom this year, but normally it will take a couple of seasons. I did have one bloom last year at one year and have another short row in the garden that hopefully will bloom this year. I don't hybridize, just pick the seeds that are there.

Here is the one seedling that bloomed last year.

Glenda, what a beautiful daylilly. I like the hint of darker stripes through it.

js, What ever you do don't get started growing daylilies. There is nothing more habit forming than daylillies. You start with one pink daylilly than you have to have big ones, medium ones and little ones. e...r.... thats plants and blooms than there is frilled, spiders, wide petals, long petals, doubles, watermarks, reds, near whites, pinks, blacks, yellows, oranges and on and on. Definately a plant to leave alone.

I'm sure that is true. I kinda have that w/my geraniums now I love my geraniums. But those look so calm and beautiful I think they would look great around a trees bed I have w/some lady fern. They do take some light shade? I will have to look these up and really get to thinking about that spot. yep that is on my to do list for tonight, thanks.

24 flats!! That must have been when I had the greenhouse. Then I did it in shifts. I would starts lots of perennials after the annuals and garden plants were done. Now I just do the 12 flats that fit under my grow lights. Usually I do one or two flats of onion (Candy and Super Star), one of tomatoes, one of annuals, one of peppers. Then, when they need to be moved to larger pots, I repot and end up with that many flats. It kills me to throw away seedlings. I won't be doing that many this year since I am cutting back on the garden. In the past, I have done cuttings of roses inside under the lights too, one year did 2 or 3 flats of coleus, salvias, mallow, malva, melampodium, and the list goes on. Right now I need to be planting foxgloves and snaps.

Anne, all the hyperion seeds were exactly like the mother plants....more hyperion. Nothing new to report....I do have a row of about 12 hyperions to move next spring.

I got some seed from a new daylily, Chorus Line (I think) to plant soon. I love doing the seeds but really should try to hybridize some, I just need to label which are tets and which are not. They do not cross each other.

I have lots of fun crossing daylilies in June. That is what I do every morning. I have no room to plant the seedlings. I do not keep track of the names or whether they are tetraploid or diploid. If they don't take it is OK. I use mostly strawberry candy for the female because it sets pods so well. I used to use stella for the mom. For pollen I use the best few I have that day. I have some plants several years old from my crosses. Some of my babies are ugly. Click to enlarge. Ugly baby that blooms and blooms but clashes with everything around. Notice it has been moved to the other side of the fence.
