OT Question, About thermometers

Hey everyone,

My children gave me a thermometer that has a section that goes outside and the base stays in the house.

I have put it up under but not really under the eve section of my house. It is brick so hard to find a place I can hang it. It said to place out of direct weather w/in 100'.

Well it always says about 5-8* higher temp out side than it is.

So do you think if I put something behind it to pull it away from the house so it can have air go all the way around it . That it would help? Or do I need to move it? I don't really want to put it on the tree. Afraid the squirrels will tear it up. An also it said to not place in direct weather. The tree has not leaves in winter so would be very exposed to elements and even in the summer it would be rained on, would the shade not effect the temp then?

Sorry this is so long but I don't know how to get this to work right. It is more or less useless when it won't read the right temp.

Bonnie
