I feel like I need to add some to my soil. I'm thinking some peat and manure. I can buy in the bag but would prefer from a local. Problem is I'm not sure what to ask for. If I locate a source they will probably know but my luck I would find the one person that would give them the nasty stuff. Then do I spread it thin or mix it in? Any help would be great. If I need to go to another forum let me know. Kathy

You'll want composted manure, that would be ideal.

I have used manure before. You want manure that has composted in other words decayed or dried out. Not fresh manure. I have used cow and horse before. If it was fresh, I just let it decay before I added it to my gardens. I mixed into the soil. I justed added a small amout. Hope this helps some. Karen
