I really like that gldno1, how fast does it spread/ It looks to be about 6" tall? Is it in full sun or part I have late sun from 1-sundown so really hot. I do like that soft look and so breezy. Thanks, but sorry I had a couple of questions. Bonnie
I spreads pretty slow imo. That spot is about 5 feet wide by 3 feet and it has been there for several years. That is on a sloped ditch so gets really hot and dry and never gets watered. The ditch faces the south....there is some shade in late afternoon, but the ones across the road are in full sun. It gets about 12 inches or so tall and the foliage gets a pretty reddish color in fall.
If you want more just go out in the Spring as the plant starts to crawl(early may)and make cuttings from the new growing tips that have about four leaf nodes. Strip the leaves off the lower 2 nodes, and stick in moise soil. It will root in about ten days. They will bloom the first year from cuttings if well cared for. If you can find oenothera berlandi siskyou buy one plant and propagate off it. I doesn't sprawl as much and blooms more.
It also self seeds. Just don't plant it in a mixed perrenial bed as pretty soon you will regret it. It can crowd other things out. I moved mine under some tall shrubs--Crape myrtle, snowball with nothing else at their feet. Not quite as happy as in the full sun mixed border but they just took over there. They naturalize well though.
I made up my mind (lol) ok I think I have. I'm going to plant in front area where the embankment area is. I think will do ok there. full sun and drains well. thanks for all the advice I just love it. so pretty and maybe soon "no mowing" for that area. Bonnie
