Ice anyone??

as if we haven't had enough all ready this year. My trees are bending down, and can see it hanging off the electric lines. grrrr. I guess the tree limbs that didn't come off w/last storm must be week cause this ice is making them bend, and not nearly as much as last time. the cleanup crews in from florida still haven't finished up all the limb p/u yet. I guess if it has to fall it should do it now to have it all cleaned up at once. still having light freezing drizzle here now. This is to go an al day into the p.m. and change to snow. I'm going to go check the nws now and see. Keep warm everyone. Is anyone else getting this stuff? Or am I just "lucky" that way. lol

I am lucky too! We have lots of ice on the trees and power lines. Everything in our area was canceled. We are northwest of Springfield, north of I-44 maybe 10 miles. We nasty stuff.

well according to weather man we are looking a freezing drizzle w/temps in the 20's tonight. They say it is to go a little farther south of me. Lights flicked off a couple times today and a good 5 min tonight. I don't think I've ever been so relived when they came back on. I'm tired of this weather. I think I would never be able to live in alaska or any such place. Nice to visit but I would get too depressed.

Tuesday morning--Been years since I've seen ice this bad, started sleet yesterday morning, then freezing rain, thunder and lightening all night. Hard to judge, probably 6" or more, trees are breaking.
Almost had to crawl to barn to do chores, downhill all the way--'course, that means uphill all the way back--and I forgot to take my cell phone. Horses arent even breaking thru the ice, what walking they're willing to do! I gave them a full bale of hay (better their tummy than my leg) and filled chicken feeder and waterer.
And here I've been wanting to start my plants--what a dose of reality!!

Oh do be careful. I don't have it that bad. just a little ice now. it warmed a bit yesterday and melted some of it. It is snowing now, but not hard. I know what you mean about starting plants. I guess I will wait a bit longer. Don't want to have to keep plants that are too large in house too long.I would be tripping over plants and children. Someone told me if you tie a old sock or t-towel around your shoe it helps give you traction on the ice. haven't tried it. I try to stay inside when there is ice.

More icy rain lanst night, so Tues. is my second day off of work cause I can't drive in. Went back to bed, woke up to find snow on top of ice. Kind of want to tell the boss 'see you in March'.

I get antsy-er than most, I am used to starting my seeds on Jan 1st, lol. So I will plant all my daylily seeds today, been saving that task for a desperstion day, if you will. I want some warm weather!

    It is pretty, though......

lol cheri. At least you can stay home and warm. Ok I get to stay home too but still work. the little daycare children have their noses pushed to the window glass before lunch and nap. You could tell they all wanted to be "out in it". I'm so glad their parents know I wont take them out in this. They are just as ready for summer as I am. They all "help" w/the plants. So cute because if anything looks out of place they come running to let me know.
Still having snow flurries here in joplin. Ok I'll give you it's pretty but from inside. makes my hands hurt. Stay warm gotta make snacks, bout time for all to wake up.

This is our first winter in the Ozarks and the ice was a nasty surprise. We were "powerless" for six hours on Monday night/Tuesday morning, and then again for a couple of hours late morning on Tuesday. My poor husband. His life revolves around the television and the dish was all frozen up. I finally rigged two poles together, taped an old hair dryer to one end and hoisted the contraption in the air to melt as much as I could. TV finally came back on just in time to see the "Cosby" kids on Oprah.

It's bearable because I know it won't last long. Back in Wisconsin (where we used to live) they're getting more snow to put on top of record levels. The capital, Madison, has had 72" so far and it's only mid-February. They will have snow until early April. Temperatures there today were -6.

I feel so very lucky. We missed out on the ice and snow. Today it is cold and damp and we may not miss out on the next go round at the end of the week.

cheri, know how you feel. We 're a mile off the highway and get iced or snowed in every year. Have been iced in more than other years. Guess the weather is reminding us it will do what it wants despite global warming or global iceing or whatever.

Gee, Connie, I think you're going to fit right in--thats what we call "yankee ingenuity". Lol
My hubby dosent watch much TV anymore, except in the evenings, sometimes he reads, but mostly falls asleep. We havent lost elec. yet, but from the looks of everything, if we get more Thursday night, lots of trees will go down, and take out the power.
I have beautiful pines in my back yard, I took a picture 2 years ago of them in the morning at sunrise, that I have as a screensaver--Good thing I did, cause ice last year, and now, has ruined the shapes.

lol oh my connie (is that right?) you will most definitely fit into the ozarks. I laughed so hard my granddaughter ask is that a joke? I had all the ice melt off the trees today and only a patch on north side of house. To be even warmer in the a.m. One good thing about being in town (not many) is the water stays on when the electric goes off. Take care all.

I may sound crazy to you guys, but my hubby and I miss the "exciting" weather of our Missouri home. Yes..we live in the "tropics", but unless a hurricane/typhoon comes along...it is just boring weather...either really hot and sunny or rainy...OK, we didn't like ice or tornados...but those drastic changes in weather are kind of fun, you have to admit...

ok they maybe a bit exciting the first time or two of the season, but after that it is just ... oh no here we go again. lol. Besides I know I would love a day or more(??) of your nice tropic weather. I'm thinking winter is dragging by. Oh well will enjoy the spring all that much more. Sunny and very windy here today. tee hee might dry up some of this mud from the ice melt. oh well a girl can dream. what was that a cold lemonade and tropics... ah .

Connie - You should've been an inventor. lol I needed one of those gizmos to melt the ice off our wireless antenna on our roof. I missed being able to get on the internet for a few days.
After last year, I think any amount of ice seems mild in comparison but we did have enough to weigh down tree limbs and break a few. I let my dogs in this morning when those big sheets of ice were sliding off the roof. Glad it has all melted and I hope it stays warm enough tomorrow so it doesn't happen again.
Fourseasons - I don't blame you for missing our weather. The iced trees and fences really are beautiful when the sun hits them. I enjoy it a lot more if I don't have to drive on it. That's what scares me.

christie, I worry more about the other driver in bad weather. seems they want to drive fast or am I just getting old? Went for a walk today and I see I need to clean the gutter out soon. I did it in the spring again in fall, now they are full of little branches etc. I sure wish I had those guards on there. Like thats going to happen. It's to be very cold here again tomorrow.
Oakleif are you doing alright today?

Christie, we got interference with the digital local TV, but my wireless wasn't affected.

We are all clear of ice here now. So it can rain again.......

Not fair GLD. The ice had weighed down our antenna and made the end of it point down stick to the roof. When the ice melted, it came back up to where it was supposed to be but we had to wait a few days for that to happen.
Bonnie - I worry about other drivers too and I worry about my teenager learning to drive on the ice and snow. Hoping we can get through the rest of the winter without any insurance claims.

I keep hearing ice is all gone--want some ice???? the warmth melted some yesterday, but we probably still have 2+ inches, and yesterdays melt has frozen again.
I say a little prayer every time I go down to do chores, that I make it back with nothing broken--that and the horses not breaking a leg.
Missfourseasons, I'll be thinking of your beautiful weather this morning when I venture out.
Rain this weekend should take it away--too late for the maple limbs that shade the deck--or I should say-did.

Missfourseasons, Is'nt there a chinese curse "May you live in intresting times" LOL!!! We've been cursed.!!!! I could use some sunshine and beach. Wanna trade houses for a couple of weeks?
ceres one Do be careful on the ice and remember to take your phone.

    Everyday spring is getting closer
    going faster than a rollercoaster.

I think Christie nailed it on why I miss those four seasons..and it's kind of what you mentioned, Bonnie...it's that rhythm of life that you get in to, and each season has something that you love and hate about it, but it is always exciting...and a change..and beautiful. Sparkling ice, new blossoms, colorful falling leaves, summer butterflies, the birds and wildlife..THOSE are the things we miss so much. Even the "boring" tropics has it's own beauty, but is seems so tame compared to the wildness of the Ozarks.

As much as I loved the winter...winter sowing activities really saved my sanity when it just got to be too much ... It did just make me all the more ready for spring.

Be careful in all that ice...Oakleif: If you promise to take care of my crazy cat, we just might have a deal...
