Did they ring them all around? I hope they recover. Rabbits really like to chew on apple wood. I don't think they have to be desperate; it is considered a treat for pet rabbits.

Rabbits like anything in the prunus family too. I lost some wild plums a few years ago and learned my lesson. They weren't expensive though. I'm sure your fruit trees were. Hope they do ok. How long ago did you plant them?

I paid around $30 each once shipping was added in. Three were just planted last spring and the others were 3 years old.

I was told they need to be at least 7 years before the bark is hard enough that they are safe.

When I stepped out this morning before daylight to check temperature, there were two in the flower bed outside the garden. I will check the foil this morning. I don't think they girdled anything so maybe they will be OK.

Where was your dog? Can you get him stirred up to look for them?

Glenda, the plastic tree wrap's are really worth the cost. I checked mine this morning, while I was pruning the big trees, and they hadnt bothered mine. I mulched mine heavy last fall, so I made sure the trunk was covered on account of mice.

I think I will check at Hummert's in town and see if they have the wraps.

helen, who knows where the dog was! Bless his heart, he barks all night some nights and chases them when they run across his path. He is part retriever and we have seen him trail some, but birds are his thing! That would include domesticated birds.
