I like the deciduous ones Exbury and the like. They are expensive but I have no luck with the others. The ones that live are all where roof water gives them an extra drink.

you might want to take a look at dwarf azaleas. you can start them from seed and they bloom the first yr. park seed carries them. they are pretty cute!

I bought several of the Lowes cheapo azaleas a couple of years ago and have been very pleased. One is red and is absolutely covered with blooms every year. I also got a white one with a green center that buds/blooms late enough to avoid freezes. I wish I'd kept the names. :X

I have a couple of Exburys in the woods also, I love them! Tho one is bright orange and it kinda clashes with the purple phlox.....

Purple and orange would look good to me. My orange Exbury is next to a pink rose that blooms at the same time! I love it a (the azalea) because it is so fragrant. I hope the cold weather didn't get the buds; it has bloomed every year for many years but it got really cold in Feb. There is a deciduous azalea I am watching at Lowes something Gem or Jewel. If I catch it in bloom and it is fragrant, I'm buying. It is fourteen dollars.

I have had a sale azalea from Lowe's for many years...it lives; it just never blooms!

Helen, if I could get any that would bloom like yours I would be willing to pay a good price for them.
