No Hummers, but a Wren is Here

I saw a wren on the porch last week so I dug through my box of old gourds and was able to make a house that I wired to the top of the porch corner trellising/support. I just took a picture of the empty house the first day and the second day look what happened.

It was hard to get a good shot; she/he was so fast and I was shooting through the dining room window into the sunlight.

It was lots of fun to watch her work the long sticks through the hole. This was taken part though the curtain.

Wrens are fun to watch - and noisy for their size.
Did you put any kind of sealer on your gourds Glenda? I have some ready to paint but I'm so busy. I should just go ahead and hang them the way they are.

I love it when they scold me. They really talk to the cat when it is with me in the garden.

Christie, in the past, I have scrubbed, dried, painted with marine varnish, I have painted with white latex paint....they all last a year or two at best.

So this time, I did nothing. I need to do some more research on it. I have so many, it doesn't really matter if they are short lived except for the nuisance of drilling the holes. This one will last better because it is under roof.
