I would love it if they would spread. I do see an occasional seedling and I usually try to move it where it won't get stepped on. I think anyone who saw violas in a lawn would think they were beautiful. At Hilltop farms did you see violas or violets? Violets will spread. Violas are little pansies. I get them in the fall. They decline and look bad when it gets hot in summer; then I pull them up.

If you get wild violets in your lawn you should kill them quickly before they take over your whole yard. The seeds are clearly spread by lawnmowers. I've just come across a suggestion that they, and other weeds, can be controlled by watering in sugar at the rate of 1 pound per 250 square feet. If only it is that simple.

Well, the lighter colored violets have spread across the lawn by the front shrub border where I have a daffodils. I actually think they are very pretty. I am not a lawn/grass person at all! DH mowed most of them down. I almost ran out to stop him.

I have at least four colors of wild violets--purple, white, yellow and blue/white-- and let them be wherever they want to be in the grass--we don't really have a "Lawn"--but rip them out of the flower beds. They do self seed like crazy. I know a woman who managed to get a strain of violas that selfseeded for several years and I wanted them so I've bought violas several times in the fall and left them to go to seed, but never got anything to come up.
