Do you have to spray anything for bagworms?

I saw some on my spruce tree last year. They ate mostly at the top of the tree and I didn't spray it or anything. This year, the top of the tree looks completely dead. I expected it to leaf out again. It has a LOT more bagworms than last year. I could pick off the lower ones but it would take awhile and I wouldn't be able to reach the ones up high. I'm afraid if I don't do something it will kill the tree.

Yes, in fact, May is when I spray with Sevin all my evergreens. You start when the larvae start emerging from the bags. Glad you reminded me!

I know I replied after you posted Glenda but it's gone.
I'm glad I didn't miss the right time to spray. I'll try to hand pick the ones I can reach and then spray the top.

We had cedar trees along the front of our house when I was a kid and I clearly remember my brother and I having to pick bagworms off of them. ick
