I couldn't find a label. It looks expensive; not a common looking plant. It was near viburnums.

Helen, I got out my Dirr's Hardy Trees and Shrubs and found

    viburnum Sargentii....

I think that is it; do a
Google and see what you think.

    It is beautiful.

There's a named v. sargentii called 'Onondaga'. That might be it. I have one and it looks like the one in your photo right now. It's been a slow grower for me but I like it.

I think you nailed it. I like it that size but it would be even more beautiful as a large shrub. It would look good in a flower bed. From the description, it would be blooming for a long time and then fall color and maybe berries. I wonder if bugs eat it up; I will have to watch it at the shrub garden. I think I will be tracking this one down. It is on my list.

Here is a link that might be useful: Onondaga

Helen - I may have one of those for you if I can dig it up. There's a rooted branch next to mine. It's pretty close the mama shrub but if I can get the shovel around it, I will mail it to you. Can you email me?

I sent your mail prematurely I thought it would preview like it does here and I clicked submit instead of preview.
