i just got my murray/mcmurray catalog, and found a astonishing fact, that i didnt know (course, there's a lot of them)

did you know that geese live 30--40 years? and that the record for a goose age is 101 years????. now, i'm sure i dont want geese, what grown child would want to get geese in my will??

Chickens are pretty short-lived so I assumed geese would be too. Isn't that funny. ok - check ducks. : ) lol

LOL, well, who knows if you raise a child with a duck he may quack like a duck then he'd want to be with those he could talk to all his life.

Can't resist-you know the saying,get your ducks all in a row?Mother ducks do get their babies all in a line-they are so cute.I never guessed that geese were so long lived.Posy Pet

Amazing!
Maybe I need to re-think my plans to get a trio of goslings (females only) this year! My kids might not appreciate being stuck with them one day---especially not after the Romeo & Juliet geese fiasco! (Don't ask! LOL)

That would be the lucky ones. I think most of them meet with an untimely death from causes other than old age.

lol--another interesting fact i learned while on "hold" they said a chicken can run 9 mph. soon as a person came on line, i just had to ask who timed it!i know i cant, so hope my chickens dont decide to run off.

I had a pet white Chinese goose which lived into her late 20s. I read that in the Murray MacMurray catalog too--I knew geese could live to be in their 30s, but I was shocked to hear they could live to be over 100! Since I just bought 10 goslings through Murray MacMurray, and I am over 50 years old myself, I guess I had better hope my grown children will want to inherit my "pets".

Quite interesting to bring this back up--another interesting fact is that my chickens are now over 4 years old!!
My, how time flies when you arent paying attention to it!
I still think the original statement is fascinating, to think that a goose can live to be 100, and I also understand that geese mate for life. I did have one that was only 2 when his mate died, he grieved himself to death shortly.
