Yellowing leaves?

I went out to the garden today and have noticed that slowly the leaves on my peas have started to go a little yellow. Also, one of the lettuces (the one that seemed strongest) has gotten quite yellow in it's bottom two leaves. Here's a pic of the lettuce to show what's going on.

This is a pretty good example of what's happening with my peas. As you can see, the top few leaves are a nice green, which is what my peas used to look like. The bottom two leaves are yellow, and that seems to be the way my peas are headed.

Any advice? I haven't changed my watering since they were only seeds, so I thought they might be underwatered, but I Googled it, and it seems it could also be a cause of overwatering. I usually put 2 to 2.5 gallons of water over my 16 sq. ft. garden each day. Is that too much?

I just want to make sure I adjust properly as fast as possible so it's not too late to save them! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

KJ

KJ, I wouldn't water every day if I were you -- I imagine you have gotten some rainfall as well. ? For my 2 cents, the cause of the yellowing is too much water. My sugar snap peas have not bloomed yet and they are starting to yellow on the bottoms from too much rain.

Wal-Mart has a watering gauge you can buy. You put the long end in the soil and the needle on the gauge will point to how dry/wet the soil is. I would suggest you buy one in the garden shop, it will last for years, about $5.00, and you'll KNOW when your plants need hydration.
Good luck -

I don't know where you are, but here in eastern Ok z6b we've had too much rain lately and some of my veggies--peas, spinach, radishes--have yellowing leaves from waterlogged soil. If it doesn't rain again tonight--but it's supposed to--I will get out tomorrow and hoe to get some air into the ground. It has simply been too WET to work the soil for the last two weeks. Too much water is as bad as too little.

Thanks for the hints, guys!

Sunny, I'll definitely be grabbing one or two of those watering gauges next time I'm at the store, sounds perfect for a newbie like me who doesn't know yet quite how much to water.

Mulberry... I've been considering some way of getting some air into the soil to dry it out a little, too. After checking the weather, it looks like we've got a lot of clear sunny days on the way though, so I'll just let it take it's time. If the next 10 days are as nice as they predict, the garden is going to love it!
