Tibouchina

I am about to move to N.E. Arkansas and have a one year Tibouchina plant that I rooted over a year ago. I currently live in N.W. Florida and am wondering if the Tibouchina would survive in N.E. Arkansas. Does anyone up there in those parts have any experience with Tibouchina?

One of my all time favorite plants. You would have to bring it in during the winter months. It won't survive outside all year where you're moving.

I have never even heard of it, but it sure is gorgeous. Good luck on the move and please join us on the Forum.

Thanks folks, I guess I must part with it. I must learn to plant things native to that area. It was worth a shot though, nothing ventured nothing gained.

I would give it a shot. Maybe you could mulch it heavily. I have some things I got at Lowe's (my bargains) that I piled hay and leaves on that made it. One was New Zealand Flax which is not supposed to be hardy here.

You could give it a try, especially if there's a spot on the south side of the house where it would get some protection. Mulch it heavily after frost, cross your fingers and take some cuttings just in case.

Welcome to the Ozarks forum! Hope your move goes well.

Here's a link to a thread that was in the Southern Gardening forum.
