Christie, that seems like a great idea -- tulle + duct tape. What ever would we do without duct tape and cable ties?? lol

My dad had an orchard in the back lot years ago and he tried everything from firecrackers, those colored triangles on a string that flap in the wind, bird netting, and even rubber snakes and owls in the trees. I'm not sure anything worked too well, but he sure was trying. Personally I like the tulle/tape option if you can make it so birds can't get trapped inside. I'm thinking of doing that to protect my dwarf pie cherry tree this year.

If you already have it why not try it.

Christie, I had bird netting once and the holes were 1" square so they could eat right through it. I think the idea is it catches their feet and they won't land....been too long to remember.

I just got back from Hobby Lobby where I bought 8 yards of green nylon netting. I am going to cut it to length and spread over my baby blueberry bushes. It is 6 feet wide so only only strip should do it.

I have never tried to cover a tree. I just share my cherries with the birds. I get way more than I want anyway.

BTW, the netting was $1.19 a yard.

Is it the same kind of material like they would use for wedding veils or is it heavier?

I shared my blueberries with the birds last year and they got a lot more than I did. I need to cover them this year. I have berries on my Sunshine Blue but not as many as last year. I also have a few berries on my little wild blueberry bush that I got in a trade last year so I'll get to try those.

It is the cheaper stuff like they make (my sis does) scrub pads from. They had the finer tulle too. It is just what I think of when you say nylon netting.

BTW, we put up our first JB trap up front away from the garden yesterday. I want to get a couple more of them.
