I've been hoping the same thing, lol. I'm experimenting by planting a few things to see how they do this late. I got some hyacinth bean and nasturtium in the ground four days ago with one bean already sprouting.

In pots I'm starting a few nicotiana, tithonia, cosmos, marigolds, and a yellow morning glory. I soaked everything overnight, figured it can't hurt, and am setting the seed this afternoon.

I planted zinnia seed late one year, and they were blooming like mad when frost killed them. I can't remember how late I started them, but it was late enough that I knew frost would get them long before they declined.

It's not too late. I haven't planted my green beans yet or the potted basil. There's always tomorrow, Christie. Both of those grow fast --

Christie, I just did a row of zinnias by the row of cabbages. They are only about 2 inches tall now. We will enjoy late flowers!

I was just looking back at this post to see when I planted my zinnias. A few of the red ones are starting to bloom already and I was worried that they might not have long to bloom before frost. I think they are 'Scarlet Flame'. They grow so fast!

I had a black swallowtail visiting my Scarlet Flame zinnias yesterday and saw a hummingbird check them out too.

You take beautiful pictures. The color is great. I like red flowers anyway but the flower and butterfly are in focus with green less focused looks very nice.

I found a lonely ss tithonia yesterday when I was weed whacking the light pole bed (on it way to bein history)

My tithonia volunteers come up kind of late. They're still only about two feet tall but they'll get much taller. I need to start some earlier next year.

Dollar General had their seeds on clearance this week and I found some tithonia 'Torch', cactus zinnias and a couple kinds of sunflower seeds for about a dime each. I will have to put them back for spring. They still had some veggie seeds too.
