Hope it's not late to plant zinnias and tithonia

I've been out in the hot sun today planting zinnia seeds where my cosmos failed. I wish I had gotten them planted earlier. I've only spotted about a half dozen zinnia volunteers and last year I had a lot. I hope more will pop up.

I found some tithonia seeds that I'd forgotten about and was going to plant those this morning as well, but it was getting too hot outside and the air conditioner was calling me. I have only three tithonia volunteers coming up that are just a few inches tall.

I have some seeds I saved from my Ruby Star coneflowers too that I wanted to plant and never did. I think I might try a few but not sure whether to direct sow them or put them in containers and then plant this fall. I did check to see if they needed cold stratification and they don't.

Is anyone else planting seeds this late?
