I winter sowed these last year but they didn't bloom. This year they're all blooming. I wish I could remember the name of the one I saved seeds from. It might have been Honeysong Purple.

What a beautiful color. The moth is a beauty too.
|
Maybe I should give these another chance! Yours are beautiful. That is a great picture of the Buckeye.

Thanks : ) I think I may need to deadhead them and see if they'll keep blooming. I like that they attract butterflies but I bet if my butterfly bush or zinnias were blooming, they would go to those instead.

They are very pretty. I've never tried asters but I may now.

I looked up that Buckeye butterfly which I thought looked like a moth. The cat of that is something I would squash. I will have to educate myself on this one. I plant milkweed and climbing milkweed considered a weed for the monarchs and let the cats eat fennel and dill, but I don't know about this butterfly. I don't see them here (Maybe because the cat looks like a pest to me). Did you plant something to attract it?

I see lots of buckeye butterflies. They like my verbena bonariensis and sedum (when it starts blooming). Butterfliesandmoths.org says the hosts are: Our yard is weedy and we have lots of both broadleaf and narrowleaf plantain but so far, I've only found them on narrowleaf plantain. I'll link a photo with both kinds below. I bet they will look familiar. We have plantain in our hayfield too. I'm glad they like weeds. Makes me feel better about our less than perfect lawn.
