Yes I bought four perennials last weekend for $3 each. Liatris, cut leaf coneflower, crocosmia, and butterfly weed. I don't need plants can't water what I have.

Re the cutting back - Glenda I had cherry peppers in a pot that were very pretty until I used them for salsa. I think your huge corn would be interesting and probably ornamental. You could morph your flower beds to veggies arranged attractively. Everything looks ratty this time of year. My sun flowers -forgot the variety - are taking care of themselves and got huge. The other lemon colored small sunflowers are bug magnets and look terrible. What I am saying is since you like veggies go with that and carefree flowers.

Glenda, I'm with you. I haven't been in a garden shop/nursery in weeks and weeks and weeks. The thought of planting anything now makes me feel a sense of Dread. All those mouths to feed, water and deadhead -- no more plants. !! Of course, by January I'll be reading the wonderful catalogs that came in the mail that I slogged out in the snow drifts to retrieve, and ... well, 2011 is another ball game. Hope Springs Eternal in January -- for us gardeners, at least.
