I live on the Arkansas/Louisiana state line & will be growing potatoes for the first time. I started a compost pile in a couple old tires I found. Thinking I'll spread some soil over that & set 3-4 seed potatoes. And just keep adding soil and/or compost as they leaf out, adding another tire when needed. I'm thinking to grow a couple varieties, each in its own tires. If I don't think I'll have enough tires I think I'll use large plastic trash cans, cut holes in bottom & bottom sides,& place off the ground on some bricks or something. Dump some compost & soil, potatoes , etc. Someone told me I couldn't start any until Feb/March.

I think just putting them in the ground or on compost with soil would work better than in a trash can. I have dug up the soil before put some seed potatoes on top and covered with rotten hay.
