I just leave mine in the ground. They have come back for 4 years now. I just let them freeze and then cut to the ground and mulch. You can take cutting and root them to bring in in case they do not come back. Being that you are in zone 7 also I would bet that they come back.

Beerhog talked me into leaving mine in the ground (except for a few I coddle and take in the greenhouse). It's worked great for several years. We only take cuttings in case we have a colder than average winter.

Beerhog gave me 2 brugs 2 years ago. 1st winter I took them into garage and then following spring planted outside as cats were using them instead of the litterbox. So they have to live outside or put up with that-not!
This past winter they froze. But they came up in mid-late June and are now almost 5 ' tall. No blooms. I'm thinking about some kind of windbreak hanging from roof overhand and a lot of mulch to maybe give more protection.

I have some yellow ones that are blooming now. They have been outside for several years. Usually they bloom too late and the frost gets the flowers. I used to mulch heavily to save them, but after I lost the flowers so many times, I stopped doing anything special. I would like to know why mine are blooming earlier this year. Could it be fertilizer or more rain this year?

I think it's the weather because mine are blooming earlier than usual. Down here, too, the frost usually comes at about the time they bloom..I hope that's not a bad sign!
