Chronic Wasting Disease

One cow with Mad Cow disease and it is all over the news. I don't think there is enough caution with this same sort of disease in deer. The wildlife farms may benefit from our newly passed right to farm law. I hope not. These game farms get deer from states like Wyoming that have chronic wasting disease. The breeding stock can be transported from state to state. Without this practice the disease could probably be tracked as it moved into other areas slowly. I don't eat any deer meat at dinners where people bring appetizers because some hunters go to other states to these wildlife hunting preserves.

As Missouri has had some cases in the wild herd which started in penned deer, they are stiffing up regulations on captive animals. Glad our Conservation Dept. is on top of it

Back when the news media began covering this, we got so tired of seeing that one British farmer and that poor cow trying to get up.

They didn't help the beef industry with that type of coverage!

The right to farm bill is going up for a recount, it may still lose. The sneaky politicians put it on the August ballot when everybody is busy and not paying attention. If it was on the Nov. ballot it would have easily failed.

If it does pass, they are going to petition it back on the ballot for a repeal vote in a Nov. election in 2016.

Read the chronology and you will support our MO Conservation Dept. efforts to control the spread of the disease. You will also see the need to regulate captive animals which is what the Department wants to do. I don't know if it shows up more in captive animals or if the disease is just more likely observed by people in those places.

I just heard on the news that Jay Nixon is going to veto a farm bill because a provision to switch deer farming from the Conservation Dept. to the Agriculture Dept. The Conservation Dept. is wanting to strengthen their fencing requirements and trading of breeding stock to stop chronic wasting disease. I hope the farmers will get who ever is responsible for tacking this on to the farm bill and causing them trouble.
