Christie this one's for you.

I can't see it from the house so was really surprised the last time I mowed to see both cuttings were in bloom! This fall after all the leaves have dropped we are cutting down the massive (20x20) foot clump of half dead forsythia on the south side of the two crepe myrtles. I think they will do much better in more sun.

That is a pretty color. Crepe myrtle is attractive all season and it isn't a favorite of bugs. You can plant bulbs under it because it gets leaves late. I appreciate a plant that can take the heat and drought of summer.
