soil testing

I have been seeing these soil testers in burpee garden booklets and such. I was wondering what any one thought of them. A bigger question would be how to read them and what to do about the reading. I know to add lime to soil to halp balance the ph but what if my soil needs more or less nitrogen or other compounds such as phosphorus potassium etc. thanks

RE: soil testing

Catalog soil testers will just give you the basics, mostly Ph. If you want more detail, the Pa Cooperative Extension office does informative soil tests for a minimal fee.

Here is a link that might be useful: find your local office
