I am new to the Pittsburgh area and have a few gardening questions. What is the best time of the year to re-landscape a yard? We will tilling under the yard and putting in new sod and plants. Also, where is the best place to purchase quality plants in the area?

Welcome. You can begin the work quite early. In fact, earlier is better than later, IMHO. Our last frost date is around April 25th.

There are some great garden centers in the area. Where are you in geography? I live in the city, and I frequent several places: Chapons in West Homestead, The Urban Gardener, Trax Farms, Best Feeds, Soergels, and a few others....

If you're in the South, check out an odd place called Buck Drakes for conifers, topiary, that sort of thing. He's quite a collector.

Thanks for the information. We do live on the South Side so I will check out the places you have requested. I have found Trax Farms.
