Allentown Flower Show...ever been?

Hi,

I was browsing a thread about the Philadelphia Flower Show in which many responded to express their disappointment. One response indicated that the smaller PA flower shows may be closer to what the Philadelphia Flower Show used to be like before they got gimmicky (what with this year's leprechauns and all). She mentioned York and Allentown, maybe one or two others.

I live in Allentown, about three blocks from the Ag Hall which is the venue for the show, but I've never been. I had always just assumed it would be dominated by kitchy krafty stuff and that the plants are humdrum. Have I been wrong in my negative opinion of my own backyard? or not? If you've ever been to the show (I'm not even sure that it's called a flower show - maybe a home and garden show or something like that, or maybe there are two different events)- I'd be grateful if you would share your experiences. My wife went there when we were looking for a landscape contractor. We were pleasantly surprised. The best exhibits were put on by some of the vo-tech students. Some nurseries had great exhibits also. There were some interesting shops with fun stuff for shopping. In all I am glad we went. It took about an hour to see everything and it wasn't crowded. It gave us a good peek at spring flowers. I highly recommend it.

I wouldn't compare it to the Phila. flower show since they are completely different. But I had fun at the Allentown show. At Phily I always feel a sheep at shearing time.

Can you give dates (and an address or directions) for the Allentown show? I am about an hour south, but if it is worth it and I am not already committed (no comments on THAT one please LOL) then I would like to attend....

alexa, it was already held - the first weekend of march.

i think york's was right around the same time.
