Need good looking shrub, preferably flowering

Looking for a few recommendations on a shrub for our front yard, need a few to create an attractive hedge along a curving brick path.

Looking for something that is ~4 feet high, can't get too aggressive or unwieldy though obviously we can keep it under control with trimming. Evergreen would be nice but since I don't seem to prefer the look of most evergreen shrubs, that's probably out. Preferably flowering but if it has interesting foliage it's not necessary. Attractive roundish form with softer branches preferred vs thick woody stems, something visually softer.

It would have to mingle visually with white roses and lavender along with various pastel annuals.

Sounds like a pipe dream maybe? Starting to think I should just plant hydrangeas! Any recos? Thx!
