Sad news for Pittsburgh are gardners

I got a post card in the mail today. Seems that Friday's Perennials in Cheswick is closing. What a shame. Where will we go now for the desired plants that the local box stores don't carry?

That is sad. I've heard of a few places around here that have gone where the big bucks are in landscape design and installation. When I was at the feed mill the other day, a few landscapers were buying in bulk and commented that there is too much work and the money keeps rolling in...I guess anyone's dream. It seems that homeowners are investing in all of those new McMansions that need yard help.

Funny, because just the other day I was talking to another gardener about ordering online and he said he gets everything at Friday's and I should go. The very next day he came in with the notice that they are closing. Dang.

I'm heartbroken. I wish I knew of another place with as much selection of materials and knowledgable plantsmen.

Really a loss. Now where shall we go?

I plan on going the 21st. With limited parking, an early arrival might be best. Looking for shrubs mainly.
