We bought a large holly one yearin spring it looked dead .We paid over 100 dollars for it.I was deermined to save it.I went back where I bought it explained what it looked like he said wind burn.Its a loss wont come back.I got Miracle grow for acid plants .I gave it some a few times.Its about 10 years later its gorgeous.Now in fall I spray it with wilt proof to help protect it.

Basically wind burn is simply severe dessication of the leaves which kills them. Works just like you blowing on something damp to dry it faster. Provided the plant is healthy and watered properly after planting, it will recover nicely, since most of the bulk will be undessicated.
