what is this plant?

We just bought a house in the Poconos - Monroe County. I was hoping someone could help me to ID this plant. It looks similar to a hosta, but obviously not in the hosta family as the deer leave them alone. They seem to be growing in areas that could almost be considered a wetlands area, and will be mostly shaded. I'm not real familiar with wild plants and was hoping someone could help me out. Skunk cabbage most likely - Symplocarpus foetidus

No - thank goodness it's not skunk cabbage. I already checked for that. I wish I could upload my pictures. It's similar in color to the skunk cabbage, but the leaves are shaped more like hosta and aren't as tall as the S.C.

A second likely plant would be false hellebore. It's got hosta like leaves that are up nicely at this time of year.
