Frost Damage Help

denisepa

During the recent frost I covered all of my plants, and with my large gardens, it took several sets of sheets and blankets, towels, anything I could find. But since then I have been finding increasing damage on many of my plants. I'm not sure if we had a full freeze to cause this damage, or what happened, but much of it wasn't noticable at first.

For example:

My hostas that are at least 10 years old have become transparent.

My hydrangeas that was about to bloom have turned completely brown.

My altheas that were just beginning to get leaf buds are growing in with curly brown leaves.

Many other plants are turning brown even if only partial leaf damage is available.

What should I do to try and save these plants? Most info online says to trim them back after the spring growth, but this is the spring growth. I am afraid to remove the damaged leaves for fear of killing the plant.
