Tuesday I went to Lancaster and visited some really great gardens:

Conestoga House: A 5-acre estate that is meticuously maintained for view by the public. This is a do-not-miss place. Details are at:

http://conestogahouse.org/

Tanger Arboretum: Features 104 varieties of mature trees. It is on the grounds of the Lancaster County Historical Society and next door to the Wheatlands. Details are at:

http://www.lancasterhistory.org/arboretum/

Wheatlands: It is the home of James Buchanan, 15th president of the USA. It features a small but very nice herb garden. Details are at:

http://www.wheatland.org/

Demuth Garden: The Demuth Gallery has a small but nice garden in center-city. Details at:

http://www.demuth.org/gallery.htm

There will be an open house in the historic center-city FivePoints Neighborhood with may great gardens. I highly recommend going on this walking tour on Saturday, June 22. Details are at:

If you are in Lancaster on Tuesday, Friday or Saturday, be sure to visit the Central Market at 29 North Market Street. Details at:

Lancaster is a perfect example of what a city can do to save and revitalize its historic areas. They have done a great job.
