would like to plant a blueberry bush for my granddaughter that loves blueberries. Do I need two bushes in order to have fruit or do I just need one?

RE: Blueberry bushes

I'm pretty sure you need at least two.

RE: Blueberry bushes

I think it depends on the variety...some are self pollinating but some require another variety of plant. And even with the self pollinating type, having two is supposed to produce more fruit.

I have 7 varieties plants and 3 large enough to get blueberries off of them. The bunnies just LOVE the plant though and I have them all surrounded by fencing/bird netting now.

RE: Blueberry bushes

You don't NEED 2 bushes to get fruit but you'll get more fruit if you have more than one.

May I suggest that you look for a variety called "sunshine blue." Sunshine blue is not as particular about PH as other blues so they're much easier to grow. The berries on sunshine blue are a nice size but the plants remain under 4'. Also, the fall color is very nice on these.
