Well it certainly makes sense, and saves a lot of water from your bill. I have never done it, no reason to. May I ask what the reason is or is it just to save a lil money on the water bill or to conserve water? As for the rain, yes here in SW Pa, we could use some. A good few days of rain. Just as long as the temps don't go down past 40 degrees when the fall and winter arrive!! :)

Is the water full of soap?

I hear that soap is good for controlling the bugs. Is that true?

I think the reasoning is just to conserve water. I just feel like it's a waste to let it go down the drain every night when it could go in the garden.

Some nights the kids have really soapy water - usually when my son gets hold of a bar and demolishes it, but most of the time it isn't too soapy. I basically just rinse them off and use a little bit of baby shampoo on their hair so their skin doesn't dry out.

If you have fish aquarium, the water from that is good for your garden. Whenever I clean my aquarium , I always put the water I take out on my plants. Thay love it.

I have done the same as Lisa, siphoning out of a fish tank into a bucket to use on plants... a few times in my younger days I siphoned from the tank out the window. Mom didn't appreciate the fish water running down the side of the house and across her clean windows. hmmmm.

If you want to give it a try and want a smaller easier to handle hose, try the plastic air tubing sold in pet stores. I think you can still get it by the foot and it's fairly cheap. Run that out the window into a tub or trash bucket and then water away the next morning!

I like your "thinking outside the box" idea.

Thanks for the advice. That would be my DH's "outside of the box" thinking. It's his trademark. That's why he's the breadwinner and I'm the gardener and child caretaker, LOL!

I haven't tried anything yet. I've been so busy, unfortunately I haven't been able to think about the garden much. The weeds are horrendous right now. DH had told me that I would want to use thin tubing - good to know where to get some. I hadn't thought about a trash bucket - that's a great idea - less hassle and probably less expense than getting a rain barrel.
