How are you doing post-freeze in NEPA?

Weeks after our May freeze, I'm dismayed at how much damage was done and the slow pace of recovery.

I had thought the rugosa roses came through the freeze unscathed, but I was wrong. All the buds ended up turning yellow, and they either fell off or came apart. Only the Explorers didn't seem fazed by the freeze. The rest of the roses lost all their buds and a good part of their spring growth, and they haven't done a whole lot since. The woman who owns our local nursery told me her roses are doing the same thing: just sitting there. It's as though they've given up.

Many of my tall bearded irises were in bud when the temperature dropped, and many of those flowers emerged deformed. In some cases the buds further down on the stem produced normal blooms.

The freeze killed my hydrangea to the ground, but it's finally showing some healthy growth.

How about the rest of you in NEPA?

Susan
