Question about pruning Forsythia

I read some of the poll below but I thought I would get a answer if I posted this on it's own thread.

I bought my mother a Forsythia for Mothers Day. It has about 4 really tall stems on it and lots of leaves up at the top of them but none to much at the bottom. I bought it at the end of spring so I don't know how well it flowered this year.

Should we cut it down about half way now or to ground level? I know they are fast growing but will it be as tall come next spring ? We would hope that the outcome will bring a full, tall bush with a lot of blooms next spring. Should we prune it or let it go to acheive this?
