do praying mantis eat black & yellow garden spiders?

Hi,

I have a beautiful black and yellow garden spider living in my garden. I believe it is one of the daughters of one that lived here last summer. I saw a praying mantis sitting VERY near her web this afternoon. My spider is fairly sizeable, but of course, is tiny compared to the praying mantis. Does my spider stand a chance if it comes to blows?

Thanks!
Libby

Yes, they can eat spiders and even hummingbirds!

Spiders will generally stay away from them. As long as she stays in the center of her web, she will be safe. Mantids eat anything they can catch, including other mantis.

Hope spidy is ok. we have a resident black and yellow too !

I looked it up to make sure it wasn't poisonous or anything. What a beautiful spider. Mine has a body approx 1 inch long. I read they can get to be 5 inches down south WOW!

Praying mantises will always eat any insect orspider smaller than them. As small nymphs, they may avoid spiders, as they grow larger and more powerful they will attack any spiders that cross their path, even blackwidows.
