I just picked a vase of Chrysler Imperial to replace the Mr Lincolns that were passing prime. The best part is Kordes Perfecta is all budded up and should be ready for a round of picking about the time Chrysler fades. Yes, warm days and cool nights have helped and this rain, beautiful rain yesterday is going to work wonders on my yard. The water restriction here has been hell on my yard but that slow gentile rain all day long will work wonders i'm sure.

Yes. Finally! The roses are making up for the months spent as beetle food. I always thing the cool temps of fall produce the prettiest colored roses.

Yes, very much! My roses got pretty shredded by the Japanese Beetles, too, but they are looking great now!

I sure am and surprisingly some of mine which are one time only bloomers are coming back. Kind of amazing.

I've got some nice white reblooms, from Blanc de Coubert and white rugosa alba shrub roses.

The shrub roses have done amazingly well this year. They were planted as little sticks from a mail-order catalog last summer, and are at least 5 feet high right now, with glossy dark green leaves. I planted 11 of them, hoping they'd create a nice high screen for a front patio. Looks like they're doing just that.

i know that both of you live fairly close and must have deer problems. when i lived in newtown i had roses, and i miss them so much. please tell me how you are able to grow roses without them being eaten. planting things right against the house doesn't even work for me, as the deer have become bolder and nothing is off limits.
witsend mentioned those two varieties (chrysler imperial and mr lincoln) that i used to grow and i am determined to grow them again.

My Fragrant Cloud, Moonstone, Just Joey, Scentimental and Double Delight in my vases are huge.

Carefree Wonder is blooming big time. Evelyn, Pat Austin and Jude the Obscure are also blooming nicely. I have dahlias, zinnias and marigolds going wild with very little watering!
