Unusual Fragrant Christmas Tree-Mystery Solved

Patriz

Let me start off to say that my hubby says I have the nose of a bloodhound. With that in mind, when the kids and DH brought home a very large and fragrant Christmas tree, I was more than happy to have the house be greener inside and smell like, well, an evergreen. My home was a scented wonderland, that is, until I noticed that the smell was a bit unusual. If I was right on top of the tree, it smelled like a pine tree, however, the rest of my house had a jasmine type fragrance. My jasmine trees have stopped blooming, so I thought it impossible for the smell to linger with no blossoms. Of course, everyone in the house said they smelled only the Christmas tree but I said that the tree smells like a woodsy jasmine plant but that is impossible. For about a week now, I've been perplexed about how this tree can put out a jasminey fragrance all over the house, especially at night, and something that I've never smelled. Low and behold, this morning the mystery was solved....my rescued corn plant, Dracaena fragrans, put out a huge flower stalk! This trash-to-treasure rescued plant is about 10 years old and this is the first that it has flowered. The flower stalk is hidden behind foliage, and I would have never guessed that this was the culprit...lol. Just when I thought I was losing my mind, err nose, now I have the answer. I'm glad that I never gave up on this plant, so perhaps it was giving back to me for all of the years of care.

Happy holidays everyone :)
