5.2 degrees in DC

My low on Tuesday morning was 5.2 degrees, the coldest I've experienced since gardening here (Dec. 2000). Yesterday it barely got above 20, and this morning it was 15.5 degrees. The good news is that the cold isn't going to last long, but the damage has been done. Many of my windmill palms are NOT looking happy but I won't know just how bad it is until spring. I've posted some photos & commentary (see link).

The trachys are looking pretty cold, but I'm sure they will bounce back! I like "Fatsia Flop", that's pretty clever haha and very true. You're yard still looks nice even in the cold though!

Hopefully when things get above freezing they will bounce back. We had basically 36 hours of temperatures consistently in the single digits with a low of 8F this morning, 3F the night before, and 4F on friday. I protected my trachys but I have no idea how they are looking. The trachys around the neighborhood that were not protected are looking sad. It's been an awful winter so far and since it's early January still I'm sure there will be plenty of cold left, hopefully nothing this cold though!
