Waggie vs. Nainital

I finally got a decent shot showing both palms together--note the difference in damage:

The difference is especially apparent in this closeup of the waggie, showing a leaf of "Nainital" on the right:

At this point I'm expecting to lose the waggie, but I'm optimistic that the Nainital will pull through. BTW one thing I've noticed is that the damage is worst on the sunny side of the palm--the side facing away from this photo looks much worse, but this is the shady side and the leaves are definitely in better shape.

Odd being next to each other and having such different degrees of damage to the fronds. Seems all of my trachies are burned bad on the backside of my house. Lets hope they have enough stored energy to come back this spring.

So what you're saying is that I should start to grow Nainital...

I wonder how much of a difference just a wrapping of burlap would make to minimize sun and wind damage. Not the first time I've heard that the winter sun causes damage when the ground is frozen.

It's definitely useful to see the difference in damage between the two varieties, both of which have reputations to be among the hardiest varieties of trachycarpus.
