Dypsis lutescens at bargain price..

Couldnt pass up a trunking D.lutescens at $19 from H.D. It wont be a potted plant for long-I want to get it in ground next month or so. FULL sun here,as less than that slows growth too much. Another in ground in part shade has been a valuable learning plant-yes,they are hardy in z10 SF bay area, but need full sun to quicken growth. bouganvillia in full leaf, and Howea palm to the right-another great example of almost no growth in containers here-tall palm in ground here..

19 dollars is a really good price especially since it has a good trunk on it. Home Depot usually has very nice sized plants for a good price too, even by me.

Good luck, it looks really healthy.

Thanks-its the first trunking D.lutescens I have ever seen. Even that twist of the largest fronds stands out.

It appears as if it is branching (the biggest one).I have one that I grew from seed.

I hear as houseplants-they are very fussy. About the only palms I have heard that do well indoors are Howea,Chamedorea elegans, and strangely-Crytostachys renda if kept wet.
I have seen Bottle palms and Foxtails as good indoor palms all year.
Wouldnt you know it?-majestys are not long lived-5+ years as houseplants.

Ive had no problem with D.lutescens or majesty palm indoors. Here is my majesty palm it is 6 feet to the top spear point and it is beginning to trunk.

Glad to see your majesty palm is still doing well. Mine is indoors and I also dont really have any problems with it. My bottle palm has burnt tips from being indoors, but nothing it wont grow out of when summer comes. Most of my palms really have no problem indoors, my coconut palm refuses to grow since december, but it isnt in decline an will probably also get going once summer comes.

Good luck!

If you can get the majesty a little larger, they develop a bulbous base-reminiscent of Bottle palms. Just adds to the beauty.
