In my opinion, Trachycarpus takil may be 2-3 C more hardy as fortunei.

Remember, Gibbons and Spanner confirmed the existence of T. takil in 2006. Everything that was imported and sold as T. takil before 2007 is actually T. fortunei 'nainital'. Since it has only been in cultivation for literally a couple years, more time will have to pass before we can say for sure how hardy it is. Keeping in mind its provenance, as with T. fortunei 'nainital', it would indicate that T. takil should be slightly more cold hardy than "regular" T. fortunei. I would be surprised if this trachy that survived -7F was Takil,fortunei and wagnerianus(and a few other varieties)survived -15F in Co.springs Co. I would be surprised if Takil ended up more hardy than that!also Takil has not proved to be a fast grower,however Naini Tal is,Takil is a great palm for sure but will probably be more of a collectors palm for ten more years until they are more available

i know a few years ago talki seeds being sold were really fortunei or some other variety of Trachycarpus. Is there still any chance of this happening? Or has the confusion been resolved as to what seeds are talki and what are not?

As far as I know Rarepalmseeds is selling Takil seeds,I really would like to have some Takil palms but my seeds have not sprouted yet,they are slow growing, so not necessarily that best Trachy for cultivation,also with how hard they are to get,I'm not sure I would want to risk one outside.

I just managed to get a couple of 3 leaf seedlings from a supplier in Belgium. Now we have the 'real deal' it will be interesting to see how they compare to other trachies and see if they are as slow as previously reported.

Very nice Vic,I will be interested in hearing your experience with them,I know of one person that said they don't grow that slow but they probably have Naini Tal,hopefully not.
