Cat palm sucker propagation

I was ripping off old leaf bases on my C. Cataractarum when I found a nice baby sucker forming from between two of the many suckers. I know that it will be fine, but I also want to start a new cat palm or two (maybe even sell them).

I was wondering, how do I remove the sucker on the outside so I can give this new sucker room to grow? Also, how far do these things expand? I want to make sure I keep giving it room to grow. Thanks in advance.

You can remove the sucker only if there are roots directly attached to it.
