The good news is Trachys ae probably the least disirable palm in Florida and are said to not do great there....
I think a Princeps would like it there!

Yeah, the novelty of having a palm tree at all in SLC was a big deal. Though there are lots of prettier palms that would do great here. All in time. Just a bottle palm, so far.

And it was pretty silly to mail them here, considering that I can get something at any nursery that is prettier, and probably cheaper than the postage. But they're my guys, and I don't have much from my old home. The windmills are cool though, and you do see them around here from time to time. They seem to do just fine with a little shade. And besides, it's a crazy story.

Now, the shrinking sad fargesia rufa, that's another story. It is just not happy here, and I don't think there's any way to save it except mail it back to someone back in UT.

Interesting story with a happy ending. Are you giving your fargesia enough water in the warmer months? I find it strange that a bamboo would not do well if given a warmer climate. They're supposed to get larger in warmer climates. Maybe give it a little shade too in the heat of the day? My bamboo took about 4 years before it got established and used to its location, now it gets larger and larger every year.

Glad that you were able to take them with you. I definitely agree, something about your first plants that make you want to keep them. I have a ton of plants that I don't think I would move without even if I can find them bigger, better, and cheaper in places farther south. Trachys are definitely used in the landscape in Florida and that is one palm that you will never have to worry about when it gets cold.
